One of the most common and surprising effects of following a whole foods diet is appetite suppression. Many High Level Wellness clients report that the between meal hunger pangs they used to experience fade away very quickly once they begin our program. This makes it easy to get excited about making healthy changes that become part of their everyday life rather than a food-phase that relies on willpower and self-discipline for success.

Protein, when combined with a small amount of healthy fat, can keep you full for long periods of time.

Eggs are one of the most powerful appetite suppressing foods. They are a wonderful form of fast and simple protein. A recent study performed with two groups of women proved that eating eggs for breakfast actually staves off hunger pangs and reduces overall calorie intake. One group of women ate bagels and cream cheese for breakfast and the other ingested eggs. The calorie count for both breakfasts was identical. The subjects kept a diary of what they ate the rest of the day and answered questions about their level of hunger, satiety and overall demeanor during the day.

The results were conclusive showing that the women who had eaten eggs for breakfast felt more satisfied throughout the day and they consumed lees food at each remaining meal than the women in the bagel group.

Eggs contain about 6 grams of protein each. This helps balance blood sugar and produces feelings of fulfillment and satisfaction; factors that help curb cravings. Egg yolks contain lutein and xenazanthin which have been shown to have incredible positive effects on optical eye health.  So it's very important to eat the whole egg and not just the whites. Eggs contain choline which is necessary for normal brain function and strong memory. These nutrients are an added benefit to the appetite suppressing qualities.

Whether you like your eggs poached, hard boile, soft boile or sunny side up (try cooking in coconut oil for added omega 3's) they are a great addition if you suffer from cravings or you almost never feel full. If scrambled egs are your prefernece add in veggies like mushrooms, onions, broccoli or spinach to super size the nutrient content of your meal.

Appetite suppressing foods aren't limited to eggs or protein foods. Tomorrow I will share two popular vegetables that also have appetite suppressant benefits. Adding in eggs and these two foods could begin to slim your waistline, balance your blood sugar, eliminate your cravings and improve your overall outlook on life.

See you tomorrow!
