Pupils given lesson in offbeat literature

Students at Clara Barton Elementary School got a lesson in being a children's book author and illustrator during a visit Friday from a former Cherry Hill student.

Author Robert Bender, who is known for his quirky stories and colorful pictures, gave kindergarteners through fifth-graders a lesson in how he brings his ideas to life.

Spirited book character Junie B. Jones visits Cherry Hill

The Junie B. Jones Stupid Smelly Bus Tour stopped at the Barnes & Noble at 911 Haddonfield Rd. last night to entertain young fans.

Junie B. Jones, a 6-year-old fictional literary star played by actress Sarah Grover, is the protagonist of a childrens book series by Mount Holly native Barbara Park.

She arrived in a bright pink bus with the windows covered in graphic illustrations from the books, along with her bus driver, Mr. Woo.

Spirited book character Junie B. Jones to visit Cherry Hill

When Sarah Grover puts on her bloomers and polka-dotted dress, she morphs into 6-year-old Junie B. Jones, the spirited star of the children's book series by Mount Holly native Barbara Park.

And guess what?

That kid is coming to this exact place: Cherry Hill!

The Junie B. Jones Stupid Smelly Bus Tour stops at the Barnes & Noble at 911 Haddonfield Rd. on Wednesday, Oct. 14 at 6:30 p.m.

Keep your peepers peeled for a bright pink bus with the windows covered in graphic illustrations from the books, and you might actually get to see Junie B. and her bus driver, Mr. Woo.

An interview with Tucker Max

As was recently mentioned on his blog, Tucker Max's film "I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell," which opened in over 100 theaters nationwide last week, will be opening at AMC Loews Cherry Hill 24 this week.

The film, in which Max has a cameo role, is based on Max's books, and is "the shocking, ridiculous and hilarious  real life adventures of Tucker Max– (it is) the story of an impromptu bachelor party gone horribly awry."

Through his books and Web site, Tucker Max has obtained popularity among a college crowd for his stories of drinking, women and often politically correct humor.
