Customers at the Mount Laurel and Cherry Hill Wegmans raised $142,965.65 for the Food Bank of Southern New Jersey during the holiday season.
Wegmans Food Markets, Inc. has participated in Check Out Hunger and other hunger relief programs since 1993 raising more than $7 million to date for emergency food services.
Throughout the holidays, cashiers asked customers at checkout to donate to the food bank. The grocer directly donated the proceeds to help feed hungry people.
As with the Christmas holiday collection, these scheduling accomodations should have little to no impact on the overall collection schedule.
Should members of the community have any concerns, however, please address them directly with the Department of Public Works at (856) 424-4422, or call the Mayor's Office at (856) 488-7878.
Additionally, the Township building will close at 3 p.m. today, Dec. 31, and will be closed on Friday for the holiday. The building will reopen at 9 a.m. Monday.

Once the presents are ripped open (in 10 seconds flat), and the novelty of toys and games starts to wear off, your kids will want something to keep them busy.
For another week.

Christmas and Hanukkah hues were part of the palette at a Sharp Elementary School assembly Tuesday morning, but the most important colors on display were the red, white and blue that stand for the United States of America.
Patriotism was the main order of the day as students presented hundreds of holiday cards to Rep. John H. Adler, D-N.J., who is taking a winter break from Capitol Hill. The Cherry Hill resident is delivering the cards -- crafted by Sharp students and others from schools throughout the district -- to patients at the Philadelphia VA Medical Center today.
Adler, in turn, had a much-appreciated gift for the school -- an American flag that flew over the Capitol Building on Nov. 17 at the congressman's request, and will now fly over Sharp.

Not much will be open on Christmas Day, but one importantly emergency line will be staffed 24-7.
The New Jersey Poison Information & Education System will field any questions about food poisoning, pets ingesting plants or food that is dangerous to them, or toy safety.

Though the weekend weather was frightful, the temperatures show it was more delightful.
As South Jersey moves from autumn into winter, it seems like it's been abnormally cold. But the truth is temperatures were four degrees above average during November and December, according to Dave Heavener, meteorologist for the National Weather Service in Westampton.

It's less than a week until Christmas, a time when shoppers are wondering how low prices will go -- and retailers are wondering how deep consumers will reach into their pockets.
Two-thirds of shoppers have yet to mark the last gift off their list -- and one in four consumers will shop this week, including Christmas Eve, according to the first annual American Express Spending and Saving Tracker research report.

At the Camden Rescue Mission, the Rev. Al Stewart is facing a tough decision tonight.
He's collected about 2,500 toys for needy children from Camden and other South Jersey communities for the mission's annual Christmas party. But 6,000 children are registered to receive gifts.
Should Stewart hold the party as scheduled on Saturday and give out the toys he has - or postpone the event until he can collect more?
"The party will be rescheduled unless we get a miracle," Stewart said, "and God knows we believe in miracles."
